Roseneath Theatre is thrilled to have Dave Deveau as a Playwright-in-Residence, with support from the Canada Council for the Arts.
Dave Deveau is an award-winning writer and performer whose plays and operas have been produced across Canada and in Europe. He is the Playwright in Residence for Zee Zee Theatre who produced his plays Nelly Boy, Tiny Replicas (GayVancouver’s Top 10 Productions of 2011), the critically-acclaimed My Funny Valentine (Sydney Risk Prize, Jessie Nomination, Oscar Wilde Nomination – Dublin), Lowest Common Denominator and Elbow Room Café: The Musical (with Anton Lipovetsky). His theatre for young audiences plays were all commissioned and premiered with Green Thumb Theatre, and have subsequently continued into other productions: works Out in the Open is currently on tour with Ontario’s To Be Determined Theatre, tagged, which was recently nominated for a Dora award and completed a tour of Israel in a Hebrew translation and Celestial Being which has been touring for the past four seasons. He is one of the Associates at Playwrights Theatre Centre where he is developing a number of projects including new commissions for Zee Zee Theatre: Dead People’s Things, and (H)OUR. His first screenplay Us in Nine Months, based on his play Tiny Replicas, won the Harold Greenberg Award at the Canadian Film Festival and will shoot in 2018 with Sociable Films. He is currently working on new commissions for Roseneath Theatre and The Belfry. For the past four years he has been honoured to curate Human Library, a community-engaged theatrical hybrid project for Zee Zee Theatre as part of the PuSh International Performing Arts Festival. Dave was recently included in Xtra’s Top 30 Under 30 and OUTtv’s Queers of the Year and was the 2014 recipient of the Pride Legacy Award for Art. In total, his plays have been nominated for 20 Jessies, including 2 nominations for his scripts.
