IN DEVELOPMENT

Roseneath Theatre is currently developing two plays through workshop:

La Maleta (The Suitcase), by Beatriz Pizano, is the story of Roca, a ten-year old refugee who flees her native Colombia with her mother. Their future is uncertain. Roca doesn’t know if they will be able to stay in Canada and whether they will reunite with her father. Through her friendship with Paz, Roca finds hope and the strength to adapt to her new home. This workshop will further explore the character relationships in the script and the multi-lingual text of the two children, as well as movement work that will be incorporated into future production.

Grenade by Chris Craddock consists of a cast of four and takes place in the Dufferin and Bloor neighbourhood of Toronto, Ontario. Technology is changing quickly, as are the lives of young people and the issues they face. To reflect this, this play – which consists of a culturally diverse cast of characters – uses Facebook, smartphones, verbatim interview and interaction with video projection. Part of the goal of this workshop will be to determine the best and most effective way to utilize these technologies to achieve a high level of production value while performing in a school gymnasium.
