Gretel’s theatre career began with more than ten years as a stage manager on productions of all sizes and genres across Canada and in the US. TYA highlights include Roseneath Theatre productions of The Book of Miracles, Health Class and Dib and Dob and the Journey Home (with original Artistic Directors David S. Craig and Robert Morgan in the casts.) She also stage managed for Theatre Direct Canada, Young Peoples Theatre and Montreal’s Geordie Productions in addition to numerous regional and summer stock theatres. From 2003-2008, Gretel was a Business Rep at Canadian Actors Equity, then turned her energies to starting her own business. For the past 5 years she created and marketed her designs of quality, Canadian-made dress-up acessories (Fancy Pants Kids) as well as developing and delivering children’s dress-up based literacy programs for the Toronto Public Library. Gretel’s designs are used in classrooms and childcare centres, at the Royal Ontario Museum and at the Art Gallery of Ontario.Gretel created the original concept for StoryMobs – a flash mob style event where families come together to bring great children’s books to life using props, costumes and participation. She co-produced 8 StoryMobs in 2013 and has co-authored a program to support those across the country and in the US who wish to create StoryMobs in their communities.She has lived for 18 years in the very neighbourhood where Roseneath Theatre makes its home. She is proud mother to two boys, ages 10 and 14.
